One of my favorite things about my business is the freedom it’s given me and my family, especially when it comes to my time. In direct sales, it’s possible to build a thriving business working 20 hours per week or less.
This is why you see a lot of mothers in direct sales. For instance, I have a lot of friends who have large families with small children who are at top levels in their company.
That’s because when you focus on the key income-producing activities of your business, you’re able to make it grow in less time than you’d put in each week in a traditional business.
So how can you be more productive in your business so you have the time freedom you’re looking for (especially if you have small children)?
These 3 simple tips help me get more done:
1. Zero distractions
I got this tip from a top earner and successful business coach. Turn off all the distractions.
When it’s time to get down to business, turn off all message and social media notifications. Set your ringer to silent. If you’re not making calls or connecting with your leaders, try turning your phone off or putting it in a drawer somewhere.
If you’re working on your computer, stay off of Facebook and get out of your email.
I know it’s tempting to check your phone or open a tab and take a quick peek, but every time you do that you break focus and it hurts your productivity.
It’s only for a brief amount of time. You can do this.
2. Work in chunks
Have you ever heard of Parkinson’s Law? It is the saying that “work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion.” That means that if we give ourselves five hours to prep for our next class, that’s how long it will take us.
I’ve seen this happen countless times and the “cure” is to schedule brief chunks of work time.
I’ve been amazed time and again at how much I can get done in an hour or 90 minutes and the reason I’m able to do so is because I know I only have that much time to get it done.
This time crunch helps trick your brain (in a good way) to work more efficiently.
3. Essential oils
I don’t start my day without doTERRA essential oils and you can bet I use them when I need to focus and get work done.
The easiest way to get the benefits of essential oils is by placing 1-2 drops on a cotton ball and taking a whiff. You can also get your diffuser and add water with 4-5 drops of essential oil.
With doTERRA oils, you can also use them topically – dilute a drop or two and rub it into your wrists, back of your neck or bottoms of your feet.
You can even add these oils to water. I love to use a drop of lemon, peppermint or wild orange essential in my water while I’m working
